One Ton Bench Press Challenge
Rules
Complete 2,000 lb of bench press tonnage in a single set using as few reps as possible. Women’s division is scaled to 1,200 lb.
Tonnage is calculated as weight × reps and leaderboard rankings are determined first by the fewest reps required to reach the target.
If competitors complete the challenge in the same number of reps, the athlete who used the heavier weight will be ranked higher.
Process
Perform one continuous set using a barbell, dumbbells, or flat plate-loaded chest press machine.
Barbell reps must touch the chest; dumbbells must lower to chest level; machine handles must return to chest level on every rep.
Flat or incline bench only.
Machine attempts are subject to a 25% tonnage tax, meaning 2,500 lb of total volume is required for the open division and 1,500 lb for the women’s division.
- Performing more reps than required will not improve your leaderboard ranking.
- Only the minimum number of reps needed to reach the target will be counted for ranking purposes.
- Lifts should be from this month’s period.
Equipment
- Barbell (any kind), dumbbells, and flat plate-loaded chest press machines are allowed.
- Belt, elbow sleeves, and wrist wraps are allowed.
- Elbow wraps, slingshots, and ply suits are not allowed.
Examples
- 10 reps @ 205 lb = 2,050 lb (male/barbell)
- 13 reps @ 95 lb = 1,235 lb (female/barbell)
- 8 reps @ 315 lb = 2,520 lb (male/machine)
Divisions
There are two divisions for this challenge:
Open Division: 2,000 lb (907 kg)
