GTFO Challenge

The GTFO (Ground to Fully Overhead) Challenge is a 1-rep max test where the weight starts on the ground and must finish fully locked out overhead. You choose the implement — whether it’s a standard barbell, axle, or log — and you choose the style: Olympic lift or Strongman lift.

Snatch it, clean and press it, jerk it — doesn’t matter how you get it up, as long as it’s overhead.

Minimum Requirements:
Males: 175 lb / 80 kg
Females: 115 lb / 52 kg

Male Tiers
Tier 3: 175 lb / 80 kg
Tier 2: 285 lb / 130 kg
Tier 1: 350 lb / 160 kg

Female Tiers
Tier 3: 115 lb / 52 kg
Tier 2: 175 lb / 80 kg
Tier 1: 215 lb / 98 kg

Lift Standards

Form

  • Implement must start on the ground and finish overhead with arms fully locked out.

  • Implement must be momentarily controlled in the overhead position.

  • No pulling from an elevated position: all implements must start on the ground or bumper-plate height. Starting the pull on blocks or pads is not permitted.

  • Approved lifts: snatch, clean & jerk/press, continental clean & jerk/press. Full, power, hang, and hang power cleans are all permitted. Note: hang variations must first be deadlifted from the ground.

Equipment

  • Only barbells, axle bars, and logs are permitted.

  • Wrist supports, elbow/knee sleeves, chalk, and belts are permitted.

  • No elbow/knee wraps, lift suits, or straps.

  • Crash pads or blocks may only be used after the completion of the lift when the bar is returned to the ground.

Video

  • Video must ensure that full range of motion can be easily seen.

  • Video must show total implement load including all plates.

  • Video must show the entire lift and must not end early.
